Farm Girls For A Better Tomorrow: The Bell Family Memorial Scholarship

Growing up on a farm here in Michigan's Green Thumb, you learn a few things very early on. You learn the value of a hard day's work, the deep satisfaction of nurturing the land, and the undeniable resilience it takes to weather the changing seasons. Most importantly, you learn that there is a very special, unspoken bond among farm girls.

It is with that spirit, and a heart full of love and remembrance, that we announce the Bell Family Memorial Scholarship for Farm Girls, established in loving memory of Shelly Ann (Bell) Schnettler.

Honoring Shelly's Legacy To be raised on the Bell Family Farm is to have agriculture in your blood. My sister Shelly understood the unique joy and the gritty reality of this life. She knew what it meant to care for animals, to appreciate the land our parents, David and Phyllis, poured their hearts into, and to carry that strength into the world.

When we lost Shelly, we knew that her memory needed to be honored in a way that truly reflected where she came from and who she was. Creating this scholarship felt like the most natural way to keep her spirit alive while giving back to the community that shaped us.

Farm Girls For A Better Tomorrow The guiding mission of this scholarship is simple but powerful: Farm Girls For A Better Tomorrow.

We believe that the future of agriculture, conservation, and our rural communities rests in the capable, calloused hands of the next generation of young women. Farm girls possess a unique blend of practical problem-solving, deep compassion for nature, and an unstoppable work ethic.

Whether they are pursuing degrees in agriculture, veterinary medicine, environmental science, or simply taking the life lessons learned in the barn into other professional fields, we want to support them. This scholarship is our way of saying, "We see your hard work, we know where you come from, and we believe in where you are going."

How You Can Help Us Grow Building this scholarship from the ground up has been a true labor of love. We have been actively working on fundraising efforts and creating materials to ensure this memorial scholarship can support young women for years to come.

In the coming weeks, we will be sharing more details right here on Down Bell Road about how you can contribute, upcoming fundraising events, and the application process for the young women in our community.

To every woman who has ever hauled water in the freezing cold, stayed up late to tend to a sick animal, or found peace with her hands in the dirt—this is for you. We are so proud to support the next generation of women rooted in agriculture.

Long Live Farm Girls
